For CPAs, attorneys, lenders and advisors
Good businesses need more than one kind of advisor.
I've spent a lot of my career working with business owners and the professionals around them: accountants, attorneys, lenders and other advisors. Something I've seen over and over is that a business can have capable people handling each piece of the work, and still have nobody paying attention to how the financial picture fits together.
That's often where I can help.
How I fit alongside your work
Some businesses have a CPA handling the books and tax returns, but nobody sitting down with the owner to interpret the results. Others are getting ready for financing, an acquisition, a sale or a leadership change, and their reporting and financial processes need to catch up.
I can come in for a defined project or provide ongoing financial oversight and management. I'm not there to replace the people already serving the business. I'm there to fill in where something's missing, and to make everyone's work a little easier.
Where it tends to make sense
CPA firms
Some of your clients need more hands-on financial management than the engagement covers. I can help them interpret their financials, plan cash flow, improve reporting, and work through the business decisions that come out of all that. The firm keeps the accounting, tax and other work it's best positioned to do.
Attorneys
When clients are forming partnerships, changing ownership, working through a transition or preparing for a transaction, I can help organize the financial information and work through the business side alongside the legal team.
Commercial bankers and lenders
I help owners improve their financial reporting, build cash flow forecasts they'll actually use, and get a better handle on their financial position. That tends to make conversations about financing, and about how the borrower is performing, more productive.
M&A advisors and business brokers
I can help owners tighten up their reporting and financial processes before a transaction, pull together financial information during diligence, or support the new ownership team after the deal closes.
Referrals go both ways
I also meet businesses that need things outside my own scope. Over the years I've built relationships with CPAs and firms that have different specialties and client profiles, and I'm happy to make an introduction when there's a good fit.
The relationships I value most are the ones where each person brings something useful and the owner ends up better off for it.
Let's talk
If you work with business owners and think there may be some overlap in the problems we're helping them solve, I'd enjoy connecting. We don't need a referral arrangement or a specific opportunity to have a useful conversation.
